It's the parents responsibility to teach it how to act accordingly in different situations, to teach it wrong from right and to help it develop properly emotionally. Kids just react to their environment and mimic it. So how exactly do they "deserve some whooping"? What fault could they have? They never asked to be born. It was their parents conscious decision to keep them and raise them, they brought them into this world. And you are telling me parents have to beat the kids after they themselves failed to make them act in a way that would satisfy their own vision about what is right? This makes no sense. Suffering is not a mandatory occurrence for one's growth and is not something that "toughens" you or "shapes your character". If you think you get stronger when someone abuses you, be it physically or mentally, you are dead wrong. You just grow more emotionally detached and scarred.
